Plan Description:

Serpentine Jarrahdale needs to have more big events to promote tourism in our shire. Last year the Armadale Film festival brought over 1000 residents to Armadale over 3 days to watch fims made by kids and adults. Primary and Secondary kids could make 3 min films and entre them in a competition for prizes, adults 7 mins. Then they played a feature movie "RED DOG" and got the director down and somebody told me the dog as well though i am not sure if this is true. They are looking to expand their business case and I have asked them to consider our very own SJ. Guess what ? They are truly interested and I have allready started talks with the group making the Business case.

My Big reasons are:

Promote SJ. Give it the recognition it deserves. Bring tourists here, show case our amazing natural environments, heritage, waterfall, walks....If we can get the Armadale Film Festival to come here then perhaps one day our own kids can start making films too and be involved. Finally in having the Film Festival in SJ it gives weight to the Ampitheatre being needed in Jarrahdale. We would be building up a business case over time which we could continue to add to.

My plan will be a success when:

When one day in 2013 in the first half of the year before Autumn sets in we are all sitting at the SJ camping Centre surrounded by the Armadale Film Festival on the lawn looking at the giant 8.5m by 4.5 m blow up screen kicking back in the moonlight enjoying and sharing films.

My plan success story

1. Now you’ve marked your plan a success, what about it makes you most proud?

The fantastic support shown by the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community in attending this event. Over 300 residents attended which was wonderful.

2. What challenges did you face on your journey and what have you learned?

No huge challenges as the planning started well in advance of the actual date. There was a little bit of a rush at the end to ensure everything pulled together but having a giant check list to tick off sure helped.

3. What are some ways that PlanBig has helped you?

There is a silent expectation you put on yourself when you put a plan on PlanBig.....when you make an idea like this public you don't want to let anyone down. With the full support of the Byford & District Community bank Branch customers sponsoring this event, the fantastic Directors and Staff it was just a win, win situation for the community.

4. Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes!!!! It is now only a year before we do this again and our hopes are that it will only get bigger and better as the word spreads around. This event raised considerable funds towards the Cancer Council Relay For Life event due in our Shire in April 2013. Not only did we have a great event for the community but it also will contribute towards finding a cure for Cancer and supporting those who need it the most...the survivors , those who have lost loved ones and those continuing the fight.
