Plan Description:

New headquarters for the: 1. Ku-ring-gai State Emergency Service and 2. Ku-ring-gai Bush Fire Brigade

My Big reasons are:

Ku-ring-gai, including Turramurra, is in a bushfire prone area, bounded on three sides by national parks. It has also had its share of natural disasters from other causes such as storms which are exacerbated by it being one of the highest places in Sydney and with the highest rainfall. The local facilities for both the SES and bush fire brigade are arguably sub-standard due to their age and the fact that part of their joint HQ at North Wahroonga has had to be demolished due to a failing building. Importantly, the SES facility is the local HQ and a back-up regional HQ if required. The cost of rebuilding a modern facility for both organisations is in the order of $2 million. Much of this funding has been made available by the State Government, Ku-ring-gai Council, the SES and the NSW Rural Fire Service but there is a shortfall which is approximately equivalent to the fit out of both buildings. The amount of money required for the fit out is $218,000 and we intend to raise these funds from the community. The Turramurra Community Bank will assist in this process by directly engaging with the community and also matching funds raised on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to a total of $100,000.

My plan will be a success when:

We get the community behind the project to raise the funds so that they have a state-of-the-art facility with all the equipment and training facilities necessary to protect and support Ku-ring-gai.
