About me
Things you should know about me:
My desire to make a positive difference in the world and follow my artistic pursuits has been harmoniously satisfied by creating A Girl in the World with the love and support of some wonderful people. I strongly believe that it is vital we continue to encourage the sharing and raising awareness and understanding of humanitarian and environmental issues with the next generation, leading change with a positive example. I am a freelance designer and artist and the owner of Threads of Conscience, a business that is about raising awareness and being part of the solution, not part of the problem. I work from a home studio at Avoca Beach NSW. I’m proud to be an active member of the 1 Million Women campaign and part of the Design Can Change movement, which aims to promote and encourage environmentally sustainable practices across the design field. A Girl in the World is thrilled and grateful to have Cathy Quinn involved. Cathy Quinn has worked in marketing and communications for over 20 years, specialising in branding strategies, relationship building and business-to-business marketing. Cathy has worked in both the private and public sectors, responsible for business liaison, relationship building with key stakeholders, community consultation and brand management. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Communication, Diploma in Marketing Management and Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management. She is also a mum/step mum to four gorgeous children, all of whom could not care less about her qualifications, and that's just the way she likes it. Cathy has two passions, resourcing community to drive their own agenda and giving a voice to children. "The opportunity to work on A Girl in the World is a gift, a chance to work with the exretmely talented and gifted Melanie Lee, and to share the wonderful adventures of a very special girl with other women and girls, if we can make a difference to just one child, we've done what we set out to do"
What I'm interested in:
I am interesting in sharing creative inspiration and raising hope and awareness in and around humanitarian and environmental issues of our time. As an artist I have exhibited in several galleries as part of group exhibitions with TAH-Togetherness Art for Humanity, including the Global Gallery in Paddington and at Sydney Parliament House. I have also exhibited works in The Tap Gallery in Sydney, Images of the Cross, and The Environmental Art Award now known as The Australian Ethical Art Prize, the Amnesty International Art Prize and two solo shows, one in Sydney and one on the Central Coast of NSW. In Sydney in 2011, I curated an art exhibition raising awareness for Half The Sky, an international movement to promote women's rights across the globe This coming September 2012 I will curate a PEACE exhibition in Sydney to celebrate International Peace Day on September 21. It will hopefully mark the world’s first ever global cease fire on that day, thanks to the tireless efforts and campaigning by Jeremy Gilley and the team at Peace One Day.
Things I am good at:
I am getting better at being the change I wish to see in the world and sharing information and inspiring others. My desire to make a positive difference and share inspiration means I have become very good at researching and promoting others. I love to raise awareness and encourage others with their pursuits, dreams and goals.
